The Indiana University + Sea Cadet program is the only one of its kind, designed specifically for Sea Cadets by a major research university and Navy engineers. Cadets have a unique opportunity to experience university-level STEM training tied directly to real-world Navy missions.
RK-IN-2601 - Cybersecurity - Basic CyberImmersion & Electronic Warfare is a hands-on experience hosted by IU's Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies and Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering.
Training alongside university faculty and engineers from Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane, cadets explore how digital systems, devices, and signals are protected in real operational environments. Through team-based, practical challenges, they examine how signals are generated, detected, and defended in the electromagnetic spectrum.
Topics include ethical hacking, Internet of Things (IoT) security, data breaches and cloud data protection, cybersecurity policy and national security, protecting critical infrastructure, signal exploration and spectrum fundamentals, and AI/LLM applications. Cadets apply these concepts in mission-based cybersecurity and electronic warfare scenarios.
No prior cyber experience is required. Curiosity, motivation, and teamwork are essential.
RK-IN-2602 -Cybersecurity - Advanced CyberImmersion & Electronic Warfare is a next-level experience for cadets ready to build on prior knowledge. It is hosted by IU's Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies and Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering.
Training with university faculty and Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane engineering/cyber professionals, cadets deepen their understanding of how cyber operations and electronic warfare function in operational environments. Advanced cadets take ownership of mission execution—designing defensive strategies, analyzing real-time data, and adapting to evolving threat conditions.
Topics include network defense and active monitoring, adversary simulation and red/blue team exercises, secure systems architecture, signals analysis, spectrum management, cyber mission planning, vulnerability assessment, and applied electronic warfare problem sets. Cadets will work through complex, multi-day mission scenarios that require technical execution, strategic thinking, and disciplined teamwork under time pressure. The experience emphasizes leadership in technical teams and decision-making in ambiguous situations.
This course is designed for cadets with prior experience in cybersecurity, coding, robotics, or other STEM activities.
RK-IN-2603 - STEM/Robotics - IU Invention Lab (The 104Pixel Future) is a hands-on, five-day, build-focused STEM experience for cadets who enjoy creating, experimenting, and bringing ideas to life. Training in university facilities with faculty and program leaders, cadets learn how modern intelligent devices are designed and built, then develop their own working prototype.
Throughout the week, cadets use a versatile development platform equipped with sensors, interactive displays, and wireless capability. They design a device that senses its surroundings, responds to input, and communicates with other systems. Projects incorporate user interface design, basic AI-driven features, and wireless connectivity in a structured, team-based setting.
No prior experience is required. Curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to learn are essential.
